Though Lebanon doesn’t have a climate that’s conducive to an abundance of wildlife, the Ammiq wetlands are a small area of land in the Bekaa Valley that provide a good environment for many animals to flourish in. More than 250 species of birds can be spotted here, alongside mammals such as otters and wild boar, 14 species of amphibians, as well as butterflies and dragonflies flitting about the pleasant scenery.

On your visit to the wetlands you can either walk or cycle around the area’s mostly flat trails, stopping frequently with your guide to see what you can pick out in the landscape. This protected area takes just a few hours to explore, and keen photographers in particular will want to visit – bring your big lens!
